Kohl's market share
Kohl's market share strategy has been, and will continue to be, designed to achieve profitable growth. At the time of their initial public offering in 1992, they had 79 stores in the Midwest. As of March 2011, they operated 1,097 stores in 49 states. In 2003, they opened 28 stores in California, giving them a coast-to-coast presence for the first time in their history. Kohl's have 126 stores in California, notably more than any other state. In 2006, they expanded into the Northwest with 10 new stores in Oregon and Washington. They expanded their Southeast presence in 2005 through 2008, when they opened 43 stores in Florida. The table below shows their growth from a Midwest to a nationwide company.
